Overview
Revista Semana faced a critical business problem: declining traffic and low engagement were directly impacting revenue. Their five-year-old platform had accumulated technical debt through quick fixes that never scaled. Users were leaving due to poor navigation and an outdated experience that couldn't compete with social media's immediacy.

The core issue wasn't just design—multimedia content, especially video and social integrations, displayed poorly or got lost entirely. With average session time dropping and the media industry facing an existential traffic crisis, Semana needed a strategic transformation that could retain audiences while maintaining journalistic depth.
approach
We designed a modular system that brings social media principles into journalism—creating an experience that feels immediate and intuitive while maintaining editorial integrity. Starting with mobile (90% of traffic), we built a flexible design system that elevates multimedia content as a priority, not an afterthought. Each component adapts to different content types without rigid templates, prioritizing real-time flow and modern interaction patterns audiences expect.

We delivered a complete UX/UI system and scalable component library for implementation. The business impact is clear: 5.5% increase in active users (13M total), 9.5% rise in engagement time, and 2.2% growth in interactions—proving strategic design directly drives results.
Key results

THE OUTCOME
Design that moves the needle
A platform at this scale doesn't just need to look better—it needs to perform better. Since launch, Semana has seen sustained growth across every key metric: more active users, longer engagement times, and a system that finally keeps up with the pace of a newsroom that never stops.

This is what strategic design looks like in practice: not a visual refresh, but a foundation built to evolve. One that serves editors on deadline, readers on mobile, and a business that needed its digital product to start pulling its weight.
