Context

La Silla Vacía redesigned its brand but didn't have clear rules in graphics implementations for digital platforms. The project required creating a system where all styles and components worked as a system for over 10 portals. One of our main challenges was working with different development teams and stakeholders, in addition, we worked with different types of content such as news, academics, opinion columns, audiovisual content, and other sections.

The solution

Our work process began with UX support, improving processes as well as the structure of the portals. Following this, we worked on the visual design of the main pages. First, our work focused on mobile devices (over 80% of La Silla Vacía users visit the website using their cell phones). Secondly, we decided to focus on the desktop version. This project’s most important challenge was designing different components that could be used for various sections, such as timelines, podcasts, comments, people profiles, and other types of content. In the meantime, we designed different style guides and specifications that were delivered to the developers. we did it to ensure that the final product design was correctly implemented.

Tools

For this process we starting using the data from the users that visited La Silla Vacía. The design process was done in Figma and consisted in the creation of wireframes, user flows, prototypes for testing, graphic directions and later the implementation of all Deskstop and Mobile screens. This process required a lot of collaborative work with the La Silla Vacía team, the branding studio and the company in charge of developing the interactive portal. The development was completed by another company in a custom CMS.
